Today we released version 1.011 of the s3mer player. This version includes the following updates:

Better RSS Scrolling
Better status while loading shows and configuration
Updated configuration checker
Minor bug fixes

If your player is set to auto-update you don’t have to take any action to take advantage of this update. If you want to manually update your players you can go to http://www.s3mer.com and click on the install now badge. You can alternatively download the .air file and install from that.

Admin site enhanced with Google Gears

We are very happy to announce that s3mer.com now implements Google Gears. This technology helps us serve our admin application much faster because we can host most of the static files on the client computer.

This enhancement will give users a richer experience and will allow for faster updates and changes to players and shows.

HOW-TO ENABLE: To enable gears you must login to your s3mer.com account and go to the settings page.

There you will find a button that reads “Enable Gears for s3mer.com”, click it and this will send you to Google’s install page. After the install just go to s3mer.com and you will be prompted to allow s3mer.com to use Gears. Click allow and the sync will begin. You can keep using the system as the sync continues.

If you already have Google Gears installed you will be asked to allow the first time you go to s3mer.com

s3mer Pro File Uploader

We are happy to announce a new feature for all s3mer Pro users. s3mer Pro File Uploader will allow all pro users to upload files directly from their desktop without the need to log in to the site.

Any pro user can download the .air package. This application works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Instructions: First login using your s3mer.com credentials. Drag and drop the files you want to upload to your s3mer library. Uploaded files will show up in the “Main” library folder. ~~Next version will have the ability to specify a folder~~.

UPDATE: New version is here now. We made a lot of improvements to the current version of the uploader. Now it has better upload progress view, now you can select to which folder to upload and a bunch of optimizations and design enhancements. Please send in comments.

UPDATE April 8, 2009: Version 1.7 - This update is recomended for all users.

Saluti s3mer: Italian support in player application

Today we released an update to the s3mer player application with a few bug fixes and support for Italian language in the user interface and clock widget.

To update just launch the s3mer player application and it will update automatically.

We expect to release more languages as soon as they are requested by a user. If you need an specific language please send in your request to s3mer.team@s3mer.com.

We just released s3mer version 1.0. This update includes a few new features, some bug fixes and now the code is digitally signed.

This changes to the application require the uninstallation of previous versions of the software.

To uninstall on mac just go to your Applications folder and delete the s3mer application file.

To uninstall on Windows go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall there.

After the uninstall is complete go to http://www.s3mer.com and click install now from the badge in the homepage or you can download the AIR package from here.

Custom Background Template Kit

We were requested by a few users of the s3mer Pro service to create a set of templates for designing custom backgrounds.

This .zip file contains Photoshop files that will help designers create custom template backgrounds for user in s3mer Pro.

We are happy to announce that the s3mer player application now works great on Linux. We have tested it on Ubuntu Desktop but we are very interested in hearing from the experience in other distributions.

This development now enables customers to deploy digital signage players at a fraction of the cost of Windows XP or Mac OS X PC.

File Upload Not working with Flash Player 10

The s3mer team just noticed that our upload feature was not working for some of the users. We have targeted the issue wich is related to how our uploader flash application works. This bug is only visible to Flash Player 10 users.

It’s recommended that s3mer users don’t make the upgrade while we fix this. As soon as we fix this we will post the info here.

We are pleased to announce that the player application has been updated. This update fixes a problem with the update of RSS feeds. Now every rss feed is checked and updated exactly every minute.

To update the only thing you have to do is run your player. After a minute or so it will auto restart with the new version. That’s it!

We have just re-opened the admin portion of the site.
